The ability to switch from wide angle to telephoto without having to change lenses also means that more of those fleeting moments that make great shots will be captured. The advanced optics include 5 a spherical elements and 1 ED glass element, achieving high-quality performance in a compact overall design. An advanced linear motor drives the focusing mechanism for quick, smooth response throughout the extended zoom range. Handheld telephoto shots and low-light photography are facilitated by built-in Optical Steady Shot (OSS) image stabilization. Like all other FE lenses, the design is dust and moisture resistant.

I was prepared to be disappointed with this lens as I own other prime G master lenses and G master zooms. This is not a G master lens but gives me a zoom range that is perfect for when I dash out with just one lens, or if I'm riding my motorcycle, I can put camera and lens in my saddle bag and go. It covers a 10-1 zoom range that you can't find in any other lens. Images are very good, sharp, no aberrations. I knew I was giving up three on lens features that are on most G Master lenses, auto/manual focus switch, steady shot on/off, and assignable button usually programmed for hold focus position. I have learned to do without these features based on so many other attributes this lens brings. I highly recommend this lens. Here are some shots I took this past weekend with this lens.
